Human capital optimization is any activity related to selecting, training and keeping those employees whose skills and motivations align with the company´s vision, mission and values. It implies generating and fostering a culture that pushes the company to achieve its long-term goals.

1.What is the vision?

The vision relates to who the company wants to be in the future. Much like the tiller in a boat, the vision is what sets its course of action into its future. Many companies have a clear idea of what their mission is, but very few have a well defined and realistic vision of their future. True Horizon puts a high emphasis on this factor, as it is a key variable when designing an organization´s action plan.

2.What is the mission?

The Mission must respond a very simple question: What do we do, and why do we do it? Many company´s respond this question superficially, therefore thinking only about profit, but when answering this question it is important to think about why is the company different and so special for its clients. Therefore where are its competitive advantages.

What are the values?

These are the company´s personality traits, and they are determined by the company´s vision and mission, and reinforced by its culture. Some companies mistake the values with competitive advantages, others think they deal merely with business ethics. It is important to define this factor, as it is what determines the traits or skills that your employees must have in order to push your company to achieve its long-term goals.

What is the culture?

Festinger, the famous psychologist, said that a cognitive dissonance occurs when what we think, do and feel does not match. Inside a company the same thing can happen. If we are to imagine a ship and its crew, a company with cognitive dissonance would be one where a captain is pointing north but its rowers are rowing south.

The culture is the expression of a company´s personality, and must be determined by its values. But in order for the people who work inside of an organization to express its desired values, a set of mechanisms must be in place. This is where True Horizon´s action plan comes in.

The vision, mission, values and culture are the founding elements of any company. Without a clear definition of these concepts and a set of mechanisms in place to reinforce them, our organization will sail with no clear course. The organization will be left on the hands of the short-term market fluctuations, and its direct competitors decisions.
